Over twenty years ago, I was living in Rhode Island and dating a wonderful man, Jay Guest, who lived on Martha’s Vineyard. I had established a private nutrition practice and spent time creating healthy recipes for my clients.
I believe in eating healthy foods – filled with extraordinary flavor and nutrients- for a life filled with energy and zest.
I created a special granola recipe, made with love, to send home with Jay when he took the ferry back to Martha’s Vineyard after each visit. I believe in the old proverb, “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.”
Jay and I married in 1989 – and I became a year round resident of Martha’s Vineyard – raising two wonderful children. I opened a private nutrition practice on this special island.
The granola became a favorite with my family and friends and a holiday gift tradition. I made it in 10 pound batches, in my kitchen in Edgartown. I continued to refine the custom-blended recipe to make it as flavorful and healthy as possible.
Soon I had to make the granola in 30 pound and 65 pound batches to keep up with requests from my friends and family. There was no room in my kitchen – every bowl and counter space was filled.
My friends and family always encouraged me to share my granola with the world. I began to dream that someday, it might happen.
That day was July 17, 2009 - my birthday! I launched Be My Guest Granola, as a present to myself, to follow my dream.
Be My Guest Granola is now sold at stores throughout eastern Massachusetts, and can be shipped anywhere. I’m proud so say that it has become a breakfast and snack favorite with people of all ages.
